Family owned and operated, our service was founded by a team grounded in veterinary care, military service, and animal advocacy, we’re here to support families through one of life’s most tender moments—with clarity, respect, and heart.

Maya
Co-Founder & Veterinarian
Maya is dedicated to caring for animals and the people who love them. Born in San Diego, she later lived in Hawaii, where she worked in a veterinary practice and gained valuable experience in client care and the day-to-day operations of a clinic.
She went on to acquire her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in Sydney, where her commitment to supporting animals and their families deepened. During her time at an emergency clinic in Newcastle, she witnessed the emotional weight of urgent decisions — and how essential compassion, clarity, and a calm presence are in those moments.
At PAWS, Maya provides heartfelt care and gentle guidance, supporting families during one of life’s most tender moments, while helping pets remain comfortable and surrounded by love.
Joshua
Co-Founder & Care Provider
Born and raised in Newcastle, Joshua brings calmness, empathy, and a deeply personal understanding of loss to every in-home visit. As a teenager, he experienced the heartbreak of saying goodbye to his beloved family dog — an event that shaped his belief in the importance of peaceful, compassionate end-of-life care for pets.
Joshua’s background includes work in disability support and service in the military, both of which cultivated his deep sense of care for others. Through PAWS, Joshua is honoured to help families say farewell in a way that is gentle, private, and filled with dignity — allowing pets to pass surrounded by love and familiar comforts.
Maverick
Chief Morale Officer
Maverick is our playful German Shepherd and the heartbeat of our home. Though still learning the ropes (and resisting the urge to chew the car seats), he reminds us every day why we do this work—because of the love, loyalty, and joy companion animals bring into our lives.
While he may not make all house calls just yet, Maverick plays an important behind-the-scenes role on our at-home pet euthanasia team, keeping spirits high and reminding us to slow down and savor the little moments. His presence is a daily reminder of the powerful bond between pets and their people—a bond that makes saying goodbye so meaningful.
