In-home pet euthanasia is often preferred because it provides a familiar, calm, and loving environment for both you and your pet. It allows your pet to remain in the place they are most comfortable, surrounded by the family and things they love, avoiding the stress of traveling to a clinic.
Additionally, in-home euthanasia allows for more flexibility and personalised care during the final moments. You are able to say goodbye in a private and intimate way, without the pressure or distractions of a vet clinic setting. The process can be tailored to suit your pet’s needs, making it a peaceful and compassionate experience for both you and your furry companion.
When is the right time to put my pet to sleep?
Deciding when it’s time to say goodbye to your pet is an incredibly personal and challenging decision. While there is no definitive answer, here are some important things to consider that can help guide your choice:
- Can your pet no longer enjoy the activities they once loved?
- Are they in constant pain or discomfort that can’t be relieved?
- Are they frequently nauseous or unable to eat or drink properly?
- Are they struggling with basic needs, like getting up or going to the bathroom on their own?
- Are you holding off on making this decision for your own sake rather than for their well-being?
It’s completely normal to feel conflicted during this time, but it’s essential to think about what your pet is experiencing. While it’s a difficult question to ask yourself, making this choice too late can lead to unnecessary suffering.
We suggest making a list of 10 things that your pet loves to do in their daily life. If they can no longer do at least half of these things, it could be a sign that it’s time to consider their quality of life.
Many families, after going through the euthanasia process, share that they never regretted acting when they did. Unfortunately, the opposite is often true when the decision is delayed.
What can I expect from an in-home pet euthanasia?
Choosing in-home euthanasia allows your pet to pass peacefully in the comfort of their own home, surrounded by loved ones and familiar surroundings. Here’s what you can expect from this compassionate process:
- Relaxation through sedation: If required, we offer a gentle sedative to help ease your pet into a calm and peaceful state before the procedure.
- Catheter placement: A catheter will be placed to allow the medication to be administered smoothly and effortlessly.
- Last goodbyes: You’ll have all the time you need to be with your pet, ensuring you can say your final farewells at your own pace, without feeling rushed.
- Their passing: Once the medication is given, your pet will peacefully slip into a sleep-like state, free from pain or discomfort.
Opting for euthanasia at home allows your pet to leave this world in their own familiar, comforting space, surrounded by family and their favorite belongings, with as little stress as possible.
What happens after my pet has been euthanasised?
After your pet has passed, you have a couple of aftercare options:
- Home Burial: If you’d like to bury your pet at home, we can leave them in your care.
- Transport for Cremation: If you prefer cremation, we will handle the transportation of your pet to our cremation partner.
For cremation, you’ll need to choose between:
- Private Cremation: Your pet’s ashes will be returned to you, along with a selection of memorial options. The typical turnaround time for ashes is approximately one week.
- Group Cremation: If you prefer not to have your pet’s ashes returned, we can arrange for a group cremation.
A link to our crematorium partners will be included in your booking confirmation to help you choose your aftercare options, but there’s no need to decide immediately – take your time to consider what feels right for you and your pet.
What happens if my pet passes away before you arrive?
If your pet passes away before we arrive for the scheduled appointment, please let us know as soon as possible. You can cancel your booking through the link in your confirmation email or contact us directly.
Since payment is collected at the time of booking, you will be refunded accordingly for the euthanasia service if your pet passes away prior to our arrival.
If you’ve arranged for cremation, we may still be able to assist with the collection of your pet for transfer to our cremation partner at an additional cost. Alternatively, we can coordinate with the crematorium to arrange a direct pick-up from your home.

Should other pets be present during the euthanasia process?
Whether to have other pets present is a personal decision and can depend on your pets’ personalities and relationships. Some owners find it helps their other pets say goodbye and provides closure, while others prefer to keep them in another room to reduce stress or confusion. If your pets are closely bonded, being present may help them process the event naturally. If they are sensitive or easily distressed, giving them space may be kinder. Rest assured, our team will support your decision to ensure the process is as peaceful and gentle as possible for everyone involved.
Should you stay with your pet during euthanasia?
It is absolutely up to you whether you stay with your pet during the euthanasia. Many pet owners choose to stay by their pet’s side to provide comfort and support as they pass peacefully. Your presence can be very calming for your pet, and it is often comforting for you as well.
However, if you feel overwhelmed or it would be too emotional, it is okay to step out for a moment, and our compassionate team will ensure your pet is treated with care and dignity. We are here to help guide you through the process and support you with whatever choice you make.
Should children be present during the euthanasia process?
The decision to have children present during euthanasia is a deeply personal one. It’s important to consider their age, emotional maturity, and understanding of the situation. Some families feel that having children say goodbye provides them with closure, while others may choose to have them stay in another room to avoid additional distress.
If you decide to include children, it may be helpful to prepare them by explaining the situation in an age-appropriate way. This allows them to understand what is happening and can help them process the experience in a healthy way. Ultimately, it’s about prioritizing the emotional well-being of everyone involved.
Is the euthanasia process painful for my pet?
No, the euthanasia process is designed to be peaceful and painless. The first step involves sedation, which ensures that your pet is relaxed and calm before the euthanasia is performed. The euthanasia injection itself is painless, and your pet will not experience any distress.
What if I change my mind after scheduling the appointment?
If you decide to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible. Depending on the timing, we can discuss potential rescheduling without any fees. However, we do ask for at least 12 hours’ notice to avoid cancellation charges.
How do I pay for at-home pet euthanasia?
To confirm your appointment, we require either full payment or a deposit at the time of booking. Here are the payment options available:
- Full Payment Upfront: Pay the full amount when booking to confirm your appointment (including Apple Pay, Google Pay, or PayPal).
Once your payment is processed, you’ll receive an email with an electronic version of your receipt, along with a booking confirmation.
What if I change my mind about having my pet transported after the euthanasia, and how do I pay for this?
If you initially decided not to have your pet transported but later changed your mind, we can arrange for the transport of your pet to the crematorium or for other aftercare services. In this case, we will take payment for the additional services, and you will receive an email confirming the payment once it’s processed.
Please note that any additional fees for transport will be communicated to you, and the payment will be processed at the time of the request.
